SOME 1,000 people took part in the Kluang 1Malaysia Run, jointly organised by the Hash House Harriers and Harriets clubs and several MCA branches at the Dataran Kluang Parade recently.
The programme was held to raise awareness that exercise is not only good for health but could also foster better relationship among all levels of society.
There were four categories in the contest, namely the veteran men and women, junior men and women, men and women, and the disabled.

Kluang MP Hou Kok Chung said the spirit of 1Malaysia was evident in the programme as people from all races took part in the run.
"Although this was the first time I was taking part in a programme like this, it was a lot of fun and I had a chance to mingle and get to know the people."
Hou said that in conjunction with the programme, a recycling campaign was organised with the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu-Thi Foundation Malaysia with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of recycling to help save the environment.

The Disabled People's Welfare Association also took part in the programme, which showed that the disabled should never be sidelined as they could also contribute to nation building.
